Export controls refers to the U.S. laws and regulations that restrict the release of certain technologies, information, and services to foreign nationals, within and outside of the United States, and foreign countries for reasons of foreign policy and national security. These laws and regulations have high relevance to researchers and scholars working in diverse fields of science and technology. The August AASF webinar will host D. Grayson Yeargin, Partner of Jones Day, to discuss the export controls pertinent to the Asian American community. Mr. John Jenkins, Assistant Director of the Export at Princeton University, will moderate the discussion of this important topic.

Grayson Yeargin concentrates his practice on assisting clients with compliance with government requirements and guiding them through government investigations. He represents government contractors, companies in the private sector, and individuals involved in disputes with the government.
A significant portion of Grayson’s practice involves representing and advising clients concerning economic sanctions and export controls. He has extensive experience in assisting companies with compliance with the sanctions and embargoes administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and anti-boycott laws. He also assists clients with other aspects of international compliance including issues involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), transactions involving the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), and determinations concerning Foreign Ownership, Control, and Influence (FOCI).

John Jenkins, Assistant Director of Export Controls, Princeton University.
John Jenkins is the Assistant Director of Export Controls at Princeton University. He has more than two decades of experience in international trade and compliance in industries ranging from high-technology to agriculture to academia. During his career, his responsibilities have included export control compliance, sales and marketing, and new business development throughout the world, including substantial time in China, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. At Princeton, he oversees the University’s export control program, and is an active contributor to teams charged with supporting the University’s overseas collaboration and research activities.
John graduated with a Masters in International Affairs from the George Washington University, and holds two Bachelor degrees from Mississippi State University.
